                                            2012 ELECTIONS

Elected vs Appointment

Consequences of Voting For Amendment Lenoir City Charter Question 1

BY: PAT HUNTER

Lenoir City resident Randall J. Brown recently qualified for Lenoir City Recorder-Treasurer in the upcoming November 6, 2012 election ballot.

Mr. Brown is the only declared candidate for Recorder Treasurer and he has an accounting degree, and six years of experience in the accounting field. But if Lenoir City voters approve Lenoir City Charter Question 1 (see below) on the August 2nd Election ballot, there would be no need for an election of Recorder Treasurer on the Nov. 6th ballot. CLICK Lenoir City voters face same two proposals again

After Bobby Johnson Jr. resigned as Recorder Treasurer, Mayor Tony Aikens appointed  Jimmie Wilburn to serve as Recorder Treasurer Pro-Tempore with Council's approval. Mr. Wilburn is a local well respected businessman and supporter of Mayor Aikens but Mr. Wilburn does not reside in Lenoir City, and in order to have a non-resident serve in that capacity, it will require a change in the Charter so City Council makes the appointment, thus no need for voters to elect a Recorder Treasurer for a four year term.
