Committee to Meet over Pay issues
School Secretaries & other Pay Scale
By: Pat Hunter
At a recent Special Called School Board meeting and at the urging of two School Board members Bill Marcus and Scott Newman, a motion was made and unanimously approved to form a Committee. The Committee will look into pay for school secretaries and pay scale of certain para-professionals. The Committee is scheduled to meet to discuss this matter prior to the Loudon County Board of Education meeting on Thursday June 11, 6:00 PM at the Courthouse Annex basement meeting room in Loudon. The Committee will be comprised of Gary Ubben, Larry Proaps, Scott Newman and Van Shaver.
School Director Honeycutt researched the issue and concluded that based on past school board minutes that the actions of the previous School Board reflect that the employees received a one-time bonus; a bonus is a bonus is a bonus. Moreover, the employees also received a step raise just like the other employees, which brought the total bonus pay to about 5 or 6 percent!
The proposed school budget is still in the red and this discussion is far from being settled.
