George Miller, Loudon County's trustee, has announced that he will retire at the end of this year.

Miller, citing health reasons, submitted his resignation to the county mayor and county commission Monday.

Miller, 71 served as Loudon County mayor for 20 years beginning in 1986. He was elected trustee in 2010. His term was set to expire in 2014.

"I've run into some health problems so I felt it was only right that I step down," he said.

Miller, a Greenback resident, said he has enjoyed his years in public service and thanked the people of Loudon County for voting for him over the years.

County Commissioner Bob Franke said the commission will begin the process of selecting an interim trustee early next month.
