Pets Suffer in a Bad Economy, too!
By: Pat Hunter
March 8, 2009
Springtime is approaching and that means more puppies and kittens. Poor economic times also affect pets negatively. Some people are having a difficult time making ends meet and they simply can't afford to feed or care for their pets. With foreclosures, bankruptcies, evictions or homes not selling in a depressed market, people are surrendering or abandoning their pets. All of these issues put a strain on animal shelters everywhere. Here's some good news regarding a free spay neuter voucher program to qualifying pet owners in Loudon and Monroe counties. According to organizers, "Vouchers are limited to pet owners earning less than $20,000 a year individual or $30,000 a year for household or individuals who are disabled, handicapped or receive Medicaid assistance or food stamps. Picture ID required." If you know anyone that may benefit from this program, please let them know.
Volunteers are needed to help out with the local shelter and donations are always gladly accepted but not mandatory. See information below. The information is also provided in Spanish. Please pass the word along to others, this is a good cause. Pets are loyal to their owners and provide hours of wonderful companionship!
