GONE HUNTIN' - PART 2
THE RULE MAKERS
BY: PAT HUNTER
Almost one week has passed since Bobby Johnson Jr. was quoted in the News Sentinel as saying that he was picking up dad's Elect Bobby Johnson Sr. political signs in the rain but it appears that he missed at least two large political signs located in public right of ways, and/or public properties located in Lenoir City proper.
At the May 14, 2012 meeting, Lenoir City Council unanimously approved the second and final reading of an Ordinance to amend Chapter 6 – Section 11‐604 – of the Lenoir City Zoning Code in regards to sign structure definitions and the regulation of Public Election Signs. The motion was made by Mike Henline and second by Bobby Johnson Sr., which was approved by: Mike Henline, Buddy Hines, Bobby Johnson Sr., Jim Shields, Eddie Simpson, and Harry Wampler voting AYE.
The political sign Ordinance states in part ..."Public election signs shall be permitted not more than thirty (30) days prior to the set date of a city, primary or general election for the office sought, not from early voting dates; and shall be removed not more than three (3) days the following the date of election.
The Lenoir City Codes Enforcement office was contacted and asked if the two large political signs meet current regulations. According to the Codes Enforcement office, Johnson will be contacted and asked to remove the signs.
Both political signs are located in Lenoir City. One is located in the ditch public right of way along Harrison Rd./Old 95 near the Lenoir City High School and the other sign is attached to the fence on public property, LCTC off Harrison Rd.
Do the rules and regulations apply to all the rule-makers or just to others? Do as I say, not as I do.
