Meet and Greet Community Meeting - School Director Finalists

By: Pat Hunter

The Loudon County Board of Education held a "Meet and Greet" meeting with the community. The meeting was held on Friday, April 25th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the First Baptist Church Community Room in Lenoir City. Light finger foods and beverages were served to guests. The community had an opportunity to meet all three finalists vying for the new school director job. The three finalists included Robert Lovingood, Deborah Raper and Wayne Honeycutt. Each finalist was given an hour to share information about their background and for residents to share concerns and ask questions about education.

Only two county commissioners attended the meeting including D-5 Eaton Commissioner Harold Duff, retired educator and his spouse.   D-1 Commissioner Nancy Marcus, was accompanied by her spouse D-1 Board of Ed member Bill Marcus.

About 45 people attended the meeting including representatives from the Loudon County Chamber of Commerce and Betsy Morrow with the Education Foundation. All ten school board members were in attendance, School Director Edward Headlee, administrative assistant Nancy Carpenter and other school administrators. Ms. Wendy Baustian, Loudon Elementary PTO President, Greenback parent Ms. Lisa Russell and Mr. Gary Ubbens, UT professor, attended the meet and greet event. All three are running for school board in their respective districts. The event was a golden opportunity for the community to learn more about the school director candidates and for residents to share concerns and to ask questions about education in an informal setting.
